Privacy Policy

Inkling is built by one person. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the app collects, why, and what you can do about it. If anything here is unclear, write to kramden88@me.com and I will answer.

What Inkling collects

What Inkling does not collect

How that data is used

We use the data above to operate Inkling: signing you in, remembering the people you have added, generating talking-point cards tailored to those people's interests, and improving the app. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to build profiles about you for any purpose other than running this app.

About the people you add

Inkling lets you store names and interests of people you talk to in real life. Those people did not sign up for Inkling, and you should think of that information the way you would notes in a personal journal. Don't add information that would be sensitive or harmful if seen. We treat that information as private to you, store it scoped to your account, and do not share it with anyone.

Where the data lives

Account data is stored on infrastructure provided by Supabase, hosted on Amazon Web Services in the us-east-1 region (Northern Virginia, USA). Inkling is currently offered to users in the United States only. The static web bundle is served by Netlify.

Third-party services involved

Your rights

You can:

Children

Inkling is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we will remove it.

Security

We use industry-standard practices: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, row-level security on the database, and a content-screening layer that prevents harmful inputs from being processed. No system is perfect. If you spot a security issue, please report it to kramden88@me.com.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy materially, we'll update the "Effective" date at the top and, for significant changes, notify users in the app. Continuing to use Inkling after a change means you accept the updated policy.

Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Mike Kowalczyk, the individual developer who operates Inkling ("we," "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Inkling.

1. What Inkling is, and what it isn't

Inkling is a personal conversation-prep tool. You add people you talk to and tag what they care about; the app uses AI to generate short talking-point cards based on recent news articles that match those interests.

Inkling is not:

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Inkling. By using the app you represent that you are 13 or older. Inkling is currently offered for use in the United States only.

3. Your account

You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us right away if you suspect unauthorized access.

4. Acceptable use

Don't use Inkling to:

The app screens inputs and outputs for these categories on the server side. Attempts to bypass those screens are themselves a violation of these terms.

5. AI-generated content

Talking-point cards are generated by an AI model from real news article summaries. They may contain errors, mischaracterizations, or out-of-date information. Always check the original linked article before sharing any claim, especially anything about a real person. You are responsible for what you do with the cards Inkling shows you.

6. Third-party content

Inkling shows brief summaries and links to articles from news publishers and other public sources. Those publishers retain all rights to their content. The app links back to the original source so you can read the full article on their site. Inkling is not endorsed by or affiliated with any of those publishers.

This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

7. Your content

The names, interests, and notes you add to Inkling remain yours. You grant us a limited license to store them and use them to operate the app for you (for example, sending the relevant interests to the AI model so it can produce your cards). We don't claim ownership of your content and we don't use it to train any AI model.

8. Pricing

Inkling is currently free. If we introduce paid features in the future, those features will be governed by additional terms presented at the time of purchase, and Apple's standard subscription, billing, and refund rules will apply to any in-app purchases.

9. Termination

You can stop using Inkling and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that we reasonably believe violate these terms, abuse the service, or attempt to bypass our safety screens. We aren't required to give advance notice for violations involving safety, abuse, or attempted exploitation.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

11. Limitation of liability

12. Indemnification

13. Copyright concerns

If you believe content surfaced through Inkling infringes your copyright or that an AI-generated card misrepresents your work, please write to kramden88@me.com with:

We respond to legitimate complaints quickly and will remove or correct material as appropriate.

14. Governing law

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Effective" date at the top and, for significant changes, notify users in the app. Continued use of Inkling after the changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

Support

Inkling is built and maintained by one person. If you run into a bug, want to request a feature, or just have a question, the fastest way to reach me is email:

I read every message. Replies typically come within a few business days. When reporting a bug, it helps to include:

Common questions

How do I delete my account?
Settings → "Delete account." Type DELETE to confirm. This is permanent and removes all your data. If you have trouble, email me.

Are my interests for "Dad" visible to Dad?
No. Everything you add to Inkling is private to your account. Nothing is shared with the people you tag.

Does Inkling work without an internet connection?
No. Generating cards requires fresh news data and an AI model call.

Can I use Inkling outside the United States?
Inkling is currently offered for use in the United States only. Expanding to other regions is on the roadmap.

Why was my interest blocked?
Inkling refuses inputs that target child sexualization, weapon synthesis, planned violence, or hard-drug manufacture. If you got blocked on something innocent, email me with the details and I'll fix the rule.

How accurate are the talking-point cards?
They're written by an AI model from real article summaries. The model can make mistakes. Always click through to the original article before treating a card as fact, especially anything involving a real person.

Thanks for using Inkling.
